Cold Steel® Man at Arms (MAA) Swiss Halberd
The medieval man-at-arms was a brave, loyal fighter full of martial heroism, who mastered a variety of weapons with great skill. He was a veteran of countless battles, often the first to throw himself into the fray. In honour of these rugged, devoted itinerant soldiers, Cold Steel® created the Man at Arms weapons collection. Compared with Cold Steel's® premium versions, these combat-ready weapons lack the usual silver-polished steel elements, but in quality and performance the products of the MAA series come close to the other products. And when properly oiled, they reveal their inherent, radiant beauty. The Man at Arms collection offers a selection of some of the finest Cold Steel® products, but at a significantly lower price. If you have always wanted to own an edged weapon from Cold Steel® but could never afford one, then this collection is made for you.
Switzerland has a reputation as a nation of marksmen. This is mainly because conscripted men are legally required to keep their personal service weapon at home and, after completing their service - and with the appropriate permit - are allowed to keep it. However, this is a relatively recent development. For three hundred years, from the 12th century onwards, the Swiss were greatly feared for the terrible devastation they could wreak on the battlefield with their notorious halberds: the halberd effectively combined the best features of spear, battle axe and hook in one devastating weapon. It could penetrate the strongest armour steel and shatter a sturdy helmet or shield. The 'beak' of the halberd could also be used to pull a heavily armoured knight off his horse so that his comrades-in-arms could finish him off.
The Swiss Halberd from Cold Steel® offered here is almost identical to its heavy-duty historical counterpart, but is made of modern materials. Thrusting point, axe blade and beak (tearing hook) are fully sharpened. This multifaceted weapon can make short work even of a heavily armed and armoured opponent.
