Langsax in Damascus steel

Is it your destiny to become a Viking jarl? If the blood of a warrior flows through your veins, Cold Steel® has two weapons here that you will simply love.

The Damascus Viking sword and its companion weapon, the Langsax, are hand-forged from Cold Steel's® finest Damascus steel and are supplied fully sharpened. Both impress with their magnificent finish. Each piece has a beautiful wooden handle. Guard and pommel are designed in the typical Viking style and have been polished to a high gloss. As in the Viking-age originals, they consist of alternately stacked layers of brass and steel.

The sword is supplied in an impressive sheath of wood and leather with a belt loop. Locket and chape are made of brass and decorated with beautiful embossing. The Langsax comes with a historically correct sheath of strong leather with carrying rings, embossed edge reinforcement and a brass chape.

Damascus Steel
The term Damascus steel, damask steel or simply damask refers to a composite steel made of two or more different types of steel. The name is derived from the Syrian city of Damascus, which is regarded as the former stronghold and origin of Damascus steel production. As a rule, a hard, high-carbon steel and a soft, low-carbon steel are brought together by repeated forge welding and folding. The high-carbon steel provides greater hardness, better hardenability and longer edge retention, while the softer steel gives the blade higher elasticity and greater resistance to breakage. With this technique, which arose in a time of poor and varying steel qualities, the positive properties of the different steels can thus be combined. Owing to the different colourings at varying carbon content, impressive patterns of the alternating layers also arise. Not least because of these patterns, the damask blades of the Middle Ages were attributed an inherent magic.
