Böker Manufaktur Solingen Tirpitz Damascus

A piece of history comes alive: the Tirpitz, sister ship of the legendary Bismarck, was the largest battleship ever launched for the German navy. After being commissioned in February 1941, the Tirpitz quickly became the terror of the Allied naval forces in the North Atlantic during the Second World War. The numerous attempts to put this heavily armed colossus out of action are legendary. After the Tirpitz had already been badly damaged in September 1944 by heavy air raids by the Royal Air Force, it was decided to use the ship as a stationary battery near Tromsø off the Norwegian coast. Here too, heavy attacks were repeatedly flown against the Tirpitz, and on 12 November 1944 the Royal Air Force succeeded, using special "Tallboy bombs", in capsizing the Tirpitz in the shallow water.

Immediately after the end of the war, a Norwegian specialist company began to scrap the ship in order to make the high-alloy steel available for civilian purposes. Science was very interested in the Tirpitz steel, which was used in research and development for measurement technology and even space travel. Norwegian divers recovered parts of the Tirpitz's special armour plating from the fjord for Böker. From these pieces of living history, the Böker Damascus smith exclusively forges an extraordinary Damascus with a fascinating history. The Great Pyramid pattern in 300 layers distinguishes the mighty blade of hand-forged Damascus steel and makes the knife a highlight of any knife collection. The combination of the Tirpitz steel with carbon tool steels also results in an extremely resilient Damascus steel which, with a Rockwell hardness of 61 to 63 HRC, is equal to any task in everyday use. Locking is by a 1.5 millimetre thick liner lock.

The handle of high-strength aluminium AlMgSi1 (significantly higher in quality than ordinary AlMg3 thanks to the silicon content) is hardcoat-anodised and makes the knife sit securely and solidly in the hand. The reversible clip (tip-up/tip-down) allows carrying in the desired position. As the material for the handle inlay we have chosen native walnut wood, which, thanks to its outstanding properties, already has a long tradition as stock wood on long guns. Including original Tirpitz crest. This knife combines history, tradition and modern technology in a unique way, made entirely by hand in the Böker Manufaktur Solingen. Delivery is in a high-quality transparent display frame case with certificate and serial number.
