Boker Barlow Prime Tirpitz Damascus
The enormous interest in our exceptional Böker Tirpitz Damascus over the years convinced us to design another model using this historic Damascus steel. Considerably more compact than the original model, the Böker Barlow Prime Tirpitz Damascus impresses not only in a collector's display case but also as a pocket-sized gentleman's knife. The blade is made of the unique Tirpitz Damascus, has a modern, elongated false edge and is opened by nail nick. The sister ship of the legendary Bismarck was the largest battleship ever launched for the German navy.
Immediately after the end of the Second World War, a Norwegian specialist company began to break up the ship, which had sunk off the Norwegian coast, in order to make the high-alloy steel available for civilian purposes. Norwegian divers recovered parts of the Tirpitz's special armour from the fjord for Böker. From these pieces of living history, the Böker Damascus smith exclusively forges an exceptional Damascus with a fascinating history. The Large Pyramid pattern in 200 layers distinguishes the hand-forged Damascus blade and makes the knife a highlight of any knife collection. The combination of Tirpitz steel with carbon tool steels also produces an extremely durable Damascus which, with a Rockwell hardness of 61 to 63 HRC, is equal to any task in everyday use.
The operating safety of this historic slipjoint pocket knife is further increased by a 90-degree detent when opening and closing. The characteristic teardrop shape of the Barlow can be traced back to the English pocket knives of the 17th century, which certainly makes it one of the oldest models of all. The name of the classic probably goes back to an enterprising knife producer of the same name from Sheffield, who around 1800 began exporting the sturdy knives to North America. They were immediately very popular there, and so the first Barlow models also appeared in the history of the Böker Manufaktur towards the end of the 19th century.
This integral-construction version of the timeless classic is fitted with a contoured handle body of black Micarta, milled from solid, which also forms the characteristic bolsters of the Barlow. The lightweight construction can thus do entirely without additional metal liners. Thanks to the equally contoured handle scales of local walnut wood, this unique gentleman's knife sits extremely comfortably in the hand. The decorative rivets are made of nickel silver, the blade pivot screw of stainless steel. Supplied with a high-quality felt case for storage. Handmade at the Böker knife manufactory in Solingen.
