Sting, the Sword of Bilbo Baggins
The original movie sword from The Hobbit by United Cutlery
In the Third Age, Bilbo Baggins is unexpectedly drawn into an epic adventure to reclaim the lost kingdom of Erebor. Erebor, once built by the Dwarves under the Lonely Mountain, had been conquered by the dragon Smaug many years before. Hired out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo suddenly finds himself in the company of 13 Dwarves led by the legendary warrior Thorin Oakenshield.
During this perilous journey, Bilbo and his companions come across a troll cave in Rhûdaur. There they find two ancient Elven swords
Glamdring, Orcrist and a knife. The exact history of these blades is uncertain, but when the half-elf Elrond examines them in Rivendell, he confirms that they are very old Elven weapons, once forged by the High Elves of the West, which were already used in the Orc wars of the First Age and brought down many Orcs.
Bilbo keeps the knife, which for someone of his size is more of a sword. He wields it throughout the adventure and uses it to fight the giant spiders of Mirkwood in order to save the company of Dwarves. After Bilbo had killed his first spider, he christens the sword Sting.
Sixty years later Bilbo passes it on to Frodo, so that it may accompany and protect him in his task of destroying the One Ring .
Sting's blade glimmers blue when Orcs are nearby.
