Extrema Ratio Contact – fixed blade knife made of Böhler N690, ranger green

With the Contact, Extrema Ratio has developed the first knife of a new production line, a series of multi-purpose knives. The blade has a spear-shaped profile, a flat grind and a diamond-shaped geometry. The knife has a lower guard that protects the hand from accidental cuts, an upper jimping for a better grip, a concave recess along the entire length of the blade and a blade of generous thickness (6.30 mm). These details make the Contact the big brother of the famous Requiem, which has been reworked in its proportions and some technical features.

The blade is made of Böhler N690 steel with a hardness of 58 HRC and, in the black version, has a chemical burnishing coating. All other colours currently in production have a blade with a stone washed finish. The handle is still made of Forprene. It is no longer mounted with side screws but by means of a shank made of frustoconical stainless steel, which is screwed on at the end of the handle and fits into a special seat. This gives the knife a good balance.

The sheath is minimalist, with most of the textile material left out. The main shell is injection-moulded from impact-resistant nylon, and the secondary retention system can be reversed for two-handed users. Thanks to its conical shape, the blade is inserted and drawn quickly. To draw the blade, simply press the release lever, which releases the catch that holds the blade securely in the sheath. A system in the horizontal slots of the sheath fixes the blade in place so that no rattling noises occur when it is stored. The back of the nylon sheath is M.O.L.L.E. compatible.

The textile part is reduced to a minimum: the classic two-button safety strap with a belt loop and a thigh strap with rubber reinforcement to prevent twisting. With this line, Extrema Ratio reduces the thickness and size of the knife to a minimum without compromising on structural strength and safety features.
