Rifleman's Knife of 1849 with sheath
Cold Steel® has long admired the timeless, beautiful look and the plain, functional design of the American so-called Rifleman's Knife. This rare knife was issued only in strictly limited numbers and in 1849 was the very first knife officially commissioned and purchased by the U.S. Army.
The model presented here is inspired by a historical piece from the private collection of Cold Steel® president Lynn C. Thompson, and although it is not an exact replica, Cold Steel has incorporated into its version many of the design subtleties that made the original a classic in its day!
Its imposing, robust spear point blade is stiff enough to hold its own even against much larger edged weapons. This makes it an ideal secondary weapon to a sabre or cutlass. In addition, with its stately blade of approx. 30 cm and its sturdy guard, it can certainly serve as a weapon in its own right! It quickly becomes clear why it was chosen by the U.S. Army as a sidearm for its Riflemen!
Cold Steel®'s Rifleman's Knife of 1849 is hand-forged from 1085 carbon steel and features a solid brass handguard. The beautiful scales, which fully enclose the sturdy full tang, are made of Malaysian sal wood. A hand-stitched sheath of high-quality leather with a locket and chape of polished brass and an integrated belt loop is included. This knife is a perfect addition to the collection of any reenactor or collector. So do not wait any longer and get one for yourself today!
