Item no. BR01KALS146 A rescue tool must first and foremost meet one central requirement: in an emergency and stress situation it must be quick, simple and reliable to operate. The technically best solution to meet this requirement is a design with an automatic out-the-front blade (OTF, short for Out-of-The-Front) with a robustly engineered and carefully finished mechanism. This presents the manufacturer in Germany with a legal challenge, because under the German Weapons Act (WaffG), OTF knives are prohibited in the first instance (WaffG §1 paragraph 4 in conjunction with Annex 1, Section 1, Subsection 2.1.1).
However, for the Böker Plus Rescue OTF rescue tool there is now a declaratory decision of the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) which denies that this tool has the characteristics of a weapon or prohibited item on account of its blade shape. (File reference SO13-5164.01-Z-543) Possessing and even carrying this tool in public (in Germany) is permitted.
The heart of the rescue tool is a classic spring-assisted mechanism with a thumb slider, which, when operated, powerfully shoots the blade out or lets it slide fully back into the handle. This absolutely reliable and proven mechanism with a strong spring was taken over from the OTFs of the Kalashnikov switchblade series, which Böker has been selling for many years abroad, e.g. in France or in the USA.
The blade, designed as a rescue hook with a rounded tip, prevents accidental injuries during a rescue of others or of oneself. The cutting edge with an inside radius behind the tip allows quick and intuitive cutting of straps, cord and kernmantle ropes, as well as safe cutting open of the clothing of injured persons. The aggressive serrated edge in the second half of the cutting edge also allows thick and encrusted ropes to be cut. Because of its extreme edge retention in pull-cut applications, the semi-stainless D2 steel was used for the blade. For the required grip security, the handle body is fitted with pronounced finger grooves and is additionally given a non-slip texture.
The aluminium used for the handle offers the required strength at low weight.
The indispensable glass breaker for smashing side windows has been given an effective steep cone. The core of the glass breaker is made of extremely hard tungsten carbide. For problem-free replacement when worn, the glass breaker is connected to the handle by a screw thread.
For attachment to the belt, a deep-carry spring steel clip is fitted to the handle, and a nylon pouch is also included in the scope of delivery.
Ideal for field-dressing game.
